Nondies coach Ben Nyambu insists 'the best is yet to come' from his side as he targets a strong finish to the National Sevens Circuit at the RFUEA grounds this weekend.

Nyambu, who saw his team win a first series leg since 2002 at the Tisap Sevens in Eldoret over the weekend, hopes to win the season-ending Kabareberi Sevens.

Nondies, famously known as the White Shirts, stunned the rugby fraternity by beating Strathmore Leos 12-7 in sudden death at the Eldoret Sports Club on Sunday.

Nyambu, a former Kenya Sevens international, revealed that going back to the drawing board inspired his charges to come away with the victory against all odds in a frenetic final.

“Not so many people had given us a chance. Everyone was talking about Kabras, KCB, Oilers, Strathmore but the bond between the players and the hard work they put in was key to our success,” observed Nyambu.

Nyambu, who took over the coaching duties from 15s head coach Callum Oliver after the Christie Sevens, said they tweaked some facets of their play to suit the players' strengths.

“I had a frank conversation with the players and told them they can do better. In addition, our various facets of play — the kickoff, scrum, lineout, attack, and defence — worked excellently in Eldoret," Nyambu said.

He insists that he is not satisfied with winning the Eldoret leg. Instead, he said: "We want more. We are not satisfied. The desire and hunger to do better is evident in the boys."

Nondies had an indifferent start to the season, bagging just eight points at the season-opening Dala Sevens in July.

They went on to reach the main cup quarters for 10 points at the Driftwood Sevens and struggled at the Prinsloo and Christie Sevens tournaments, where they could only manage five points from each.

However, they turned the tables in Eldoret, winning all the six matches they were involved in to sit seventh on the log with 50 points.

Nondies' previous win on the circuit came in 2002 when they beat Ulinzi 30-0 at the Driftwood Sevens.

The squad that won the tournament had household names like the late Benjamin Ayimba, Shaka Kwach, Paul 'Pablo' Murunga, Charles Cadovillis, and Allan Hicks among others.
