Bungoma County will host the 2024 Madaraka Day celebrations.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula made the revelations on Sunday during a church service in Bungoma.
He made the remarks while commending President William Ruto for considering and including the Western region in his development tour.
"You( Ruto) have respected Bungoma and allowed your government next year to celebrate Madaraka Day in Bungoma," Wetang'ula noted.
The former Bungoma Senator revealed that Interior PS Raymon Omollo has already sent top officials from the Office of the President to survey Bungoma.
This year, Kenyans from all walks of life trooped to Embu for the 60th Madaraka Day celebrations at Moi Stadium.
It was the first time the stadium was hosting a national event that attracted more than 9,000 people.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said Embu County was picked for its strategic geographic location and its link to the fight for independence.
He said the county is also close to where freedom fighters experienced difficult times when driving the colonialists out of Kenyan land.
Madaraka Day celebrations are held annually on June 1 to commemorate the day that Kenya achieved independent internal self-governance from the British colonists.
It is one of the three national holidays that have been created under Article 8 of the 2010 Constitution.
