President William Ruto on Saturday gifted Busia fish trade Sh56 million to support and maintain their businesses.
The Head of state said fishery is one of the main drivers of Kenya's economic growth adding its potential remains under-exploited.
"We have increased our investment in the fish industry through efficient marketing and active participation of fishermen in the entire value addition to boost the sector’s competitiveness, thereby creating more and better jobs for millions of our youth," he said.
Ruto said the cold room in Mulukhoba Fish Landing Site will process more than 10 tonnes of fish in a day.
"The improved refrigeration will help maintain a long shelf life and guarantee the quality of fish from Busia and the neighbouring counties."
The cheque issued to the traders was from the Ministry of Mining and the blue economy.
