CSs Wahome, Tuya to appear before Senate

Two Cabinet Secretaries are scheduled to appear before the Senate on Wednesday to respond to questions from senators.

The duo of Alice Wahome (Water and Sanitation), and Soipan Tuya (Environment)  are appearing during the morning session as per the Standing Order 51A (5).

Wahome will be expected to provide an update on the status of the construction of canals and drains in the Mutithi ward under the Mwea Irrigation Development Project.

She will also be expected to state measures the government is taking to ensure the completion of the project.

The former Kandara MP will also explain why the Gakuyuini Irrigation Water Project in Wamumu Ward, Kirinyaga county has taken long to implement.

Wahome will also tell the Senators whether any funds have been allocated to the project in the 2023-24 Financial Year.

CS Tuya on her part will provide reasons for the failure by the Chief Conservator of forests to approve the use of land in Njukiini Forest for the right of way of the Ngariama Njukiini Water projects in Kirinyaga county.

She will also state the measures the government is taking to ensure the land is availed for the said project.

Tuya is expected to provide a timeline for the commencement and completion of the project.

MPs amended Standing Order 25 (A) paving the way for the Cabinet Secretaries to appear before both Houses to expound on government policies, reply to questions and provide reports concerning matters under their docket.

President William Ruto said that through this, the information gap between citizens and government can be bridged thereby enhancing trust.
