Human rights groups are demanding justice for a businessman who was shot in Kiamaiko, Nairobi.

Speaking after an autopsy on the body of Galano Hassan Yusuf at the City Mortuary, the groups led by Haki Africa condemned the shooting as extrajudicial killing.

Galano, 33, was a father of three. Haki Africa executive director Hussein Khalid said the autopsy showed Galano was shot from behind.

“This clearly shows he was targeted from behind. We demand justice by disarming whoever did this and having them in court,” he said.

He added two other people were shot and injured in the drama that was sparked by a police operation.

Th incident caused two days of protests in the area that grounded traffic flow.

The family too demanded justice saying police were acting as the prosecutor and judge in the case.

“He was targeted and killed. He had just come from South Africa and set up his car wash, which was feeding the family,” said his brother Yusuf.

Police say and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority said they are investigating the shooting.

Police said Galano was last month arrested over claims of narcotics trafficking.

Galano was shot and killed on Tuesday sparking two days of protests in the area where protesters blocked roads.

He was shot during an altercation between locals at a car wash and police over attempt by police to arrest two of his workers, residents and other workers said.

An autopsy done on his body showed the bullet was fired from the back and went through the mouth.

Galano was a well-known businessman in the area, hence the two-day protests.

Police said Galano was shot in a confrontation between police and local youths on Tuesday

The commotion ensued between the police and the residents after the police identified a suspected stolen motorcycle there.

The residents started pelting police with stones and damaging vehicles parked along the road and injuring people, prompting the shooting.

Two suspects James Mwangi and Billgum Ambusi were arrested.

But locals said the motorcycle in question had been brought there by a man who wanted it washed but could not raise Sh200 for the service and left.

Two days later, he came with police who were looking for the motorcycle prompting the drama.

This sparked more chaos as police retreated from the area even as the suspected motorcycle was recovered and escorted to Huruma police station under heavy security.

During the incident, three police officers were injured as they retrieved the body of Galano to the mortuary, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said.

Another group emerged and torched a house they said belonged to a police informant, sparking more trouble.

This spilled from Kiamaiko to adjacent roads until late in the evening on Tuesday

More officers were taken to the area amid claims the chaos were being fanned by gangs selling narcotics in the area.

On Wednesday, similar chaos broke out after Galano was buried at Kariokor cemetery.

Police have since explained Galano was on June 17 among seven suspects who were arrested over claims of trafficking narcotics in the area.

Police said over 10kg of bhang, 450 rolls of the same substance, weighing scales, daggers and gas cylinders suspected to have been stolen were recovered during the midnight raid on Saturday.

A vehicle used to distribute the highly addictive drug in various parts of the city was also impounded.
