Families and friends of victims who died during anti-government demos lighting candles during a vigil at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referal Hospital in Kisumu on July 26, 2023.

A section of Azimio supporters turned up at the Jacaranda grounds in Embakasi East to remember Kenyans who died during the anti-government protests.

The peaceful Kenyans were seen carrying Kenyan flags in their hands and singing as they paid their respect to the departed colleagues.

They were heard singing, ‘hapa Nairobi sisi ni wageni’ translated to mean "here in Nairobi we are visitors".

They also lit candles as had been instructed by the opposition leader Raila Odinga.

In memory of the dead, Azimio also asked Kenyans to say prayers during the vigil on Wednesday.

"During the vigils, candle lighting and laying of flowers, we encourage Kenyans to say prayers and read out the names of the victims of police brutality," it said.

They sang as they led their procession to Mama Lucy Hospital where some of the victims are hospitalised.

They have urged the leaders to put the cost of living at the centre of dialogue should there be any as an honour to those who lost their lives.

Odinga visited Mama Lucy Hospital in Nairobi's Eastlands area to console victims of alleged police brutality during last week's demos.

Raila was accompanied by Azimio co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, former Murang'a governor Mwangi wa Iria and other Opposition lawmakers.

The leaders assembled at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation for a brief meeting before visiting the victims, on Wednesday.
