President William Ruto has condemned protesters for attacking police officers during demonstrations.

Speaking on Sunday at a church service in Taita Taveta, Ruto warned that attacks on police officers will not continue under his watch.

"It is not possible that anybody can attack the police. You cannot. The police are the symbol of security in Kenya. Therefore, you cannot attack the police with stones and all manner of crude weapons," Ruto said.

"That is not acceptable and that will not happen in Kenya."

He confirmed that there are so many police officers who are in hospital injured during demonstrations called by Azimio La Umoja leaders.

"We have so many police officers who are in hospital injured by stones, knives, gun bullets and yet there are other leaders supporting it," Ruto said.

"That is not right fellow leaders. Whatever differences or complaints we have, we cannot be part of a violent culture and anything that destroys properties, life or business."

He urged the young people not to be lured by other leaders into fighting police officers adding that it will land them in danger.

"I want to kindly ask the young people, don't allow to be given little money to go out there and fight police officers with stones, teargas, gun, destroy other people's properties and businesses. That will put you in danger," Ruto said.

He called on police officers to be firm on protesters who destroy properties and businesses.

The president also applauded the officers for fiercely dealing with protesters during demonstrations.

He further said that everyone must abide by the rule of law.

"We are a peaceful nation and all of us must be law-abiding since we are one country because of the rule of law," Ruto said.

"If we want to be a civilized nation, we must abide by the rule of the law."
