Ever since President William Ruto took an oath of office, he has reiterated his campaign promise to create employment opportunities for youths in the country.
On Friday, the President was in Kangari, Murang'a county where he listed five key projects he will set up in the region to create employment opportunities for the residents.
In his address, Ruto said that he intends to create a million jobs through the housing programme for Murang'a residents.
He noted that this will be achieved through the setting up of houses that will give the youths technical jobs such as plumbing, electrician and mason jobs.
"Tunataka programme ya housing izalishe vijana millioni moja ajira na tumekubaliana ya kwamba ile kazi itapatikana hawa vijana watafanya, ama nyinyi vijana ni wale wa kuchagua jembe?" Ruto asked.
"Si tulikubaliana kazi ni kazi, kama kazi itapatikana hapa ya plumber si mtafanya, ya mason si mtafanya, ya carpenter si mtafanya, ya electrician si mtafanya."
He went on to state that his administration intends to set up a 'County Aggregation and Industrial Park' where all agricultural produce from the region will be stored in cold rooms.
According to Ruto, the facility will carry out value addition, agro-processing and manufacturing of the produce collected thus promoting agricultural activity in the region.
Ruto had earlier reiterated that his administration would like to use agriculture as the main way of putting money in the pockets of Kenyans.
He further promised to set up a Special Economic Zone at Delmonte which he said will help close to 20,000 youths with jobs.
"Hapa Murang'a tumeweka Sh1 billion pale Delmonte kwa sababu tunataka kujenga Special Economic Zone ya hapa Murang'a County kwa sababu tunataka vijana elfu ishirini ama elfu thelathini tuwaweke kwa hiyo Special Economic Zone kama ile iko huko Athi River," Ruto said.
President Ruto went on to promise the residents that all Wards in the county will set up an ICT Hub which he said will give youths Digital jobs.
He additionally promised to devolve all Healthcare services back to the county governments, which he said will see each health facility in the region get community health promoters.
"Tumekubaliana na hawa county governments yote ya kwamba mambo ya matibabu tutarudisha mpaka hapa chini. Kila mahali tutaweka wale wauguzi tunaowaita Community Health Promoters, na serikali ya kenya ikishirikiana na serikali ya kaunti itakuwa ikilipa hao watu," he said.
The health workers, he said, will facilitate his vision to attain a 1 to 100 households doctor-patient ratio.
Speaking on officially launching the program, Ruto stated that Murang'a county governor Irungu Kang'ata had already identified 2,300 community health promoters whom, he said the national government will help fund.
These promises he said will be financed by revenue collected locally.
President Ruto criticised borrowing of funds to finance local projects.
