Mercurial Harambee Stars midfielder Kenneth Muguna has vowed to help propel Kenya Police to new heights after penning a one-year deal with the law enforcers on Friday.
Muguna, who was a free agent after his two-year contract with Tanzanian topflight side Azam FC elapsed last month, will take home a monthly salary of Sh 250000 in the lush deal.
“I have joined the Police because their ambitions for the new season sit pretty well with my personal goals,” Muguna said. “I had some lengthy discussions with coach Francis Barasa where he made his expectations and those of the club quite clear. I’m prepared for the task ahead and I’m ready to do whatever it takes to steer the club forward,” Muguna said.
Muguna said he was glad to have landed an opportunity to ply trade on the local terrain after two seasons across the border.
The law enforcers, who wrapped up third last season, will rely extensively on Muguna’s expertise in the midfield as they eye their maiden topflight title since their promotion in 2020.
Muguna joins a talent-laden squad that boasts the most potent midfield dynamos in the country including Francis Kahata and Duke Abuya.
The law enforcers have gone on a shopping spree to embolden their ranks with resourceful Kariobangi Sharks midfielder Tyson ‘Duvh Duch’ Otieno among their key targets.
The club confirmed in a statement on Friday that they had managed to land Muguna’s signature for the coming season.
“There’s a new sheriff in town. Kenyan international Kenneth Muguna has officially penned down a contract with the biggest club in Africa after completing his medical,” the statement read.
The law enforcers have also taken a bold move to strengthen their technical bench with experienced tactician Salim Babu already brought on board.
The gaffer turned into a hot cake after cracking a fourth-place finish with Kenyan Premier League minnows Nzoia Sugar last season.
“Yes, he joined us on Monday and the deal cannot be reversed. We have acquired him at the request of head coach Francis Baraza,” said a source at the club.
“Babu worked as Baraza’s assistant at Sony Sugar in 2006 when the defunct club won the league and so we believe they have a chemistry that could work magic for us too.”
