President William Ruto has announced that Kenya has finalized the process of removing visa restrictions for Djibouti citizens.
Speaking on Sunday during a joint press conference with his Djibouti counterpart President Ismail Omar, Ruto said visa-free visits will people to people interaction between the two countries.
He noted that this will also boost trade between the two countries.
"To promote people-to-people interactions, trade, and investment, I am firmly committed to eliminating the barriers imposed by visa requirements for Djiboutian citizens traveling to Kenya," he said.
"Therefore, Kenya has concluded necessary procedures to enable visa-free visits for citizens of Djibouti to Kenya."
The meeting between the two heads of state comes after the second session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) between Kenya and Djibouti.
Ruto and Omar agreed to accelerate the negotiation and finalization of a comprehensive labour agreement between the two countries to improve coordination on labour migration.
"We recognize the immense potential for mutual benefit by harnessing Kenya's skilled workforce. In this regard, I express my gratitude to my esteemed counterpart for hosting over 600 Kenyan professionals in Djibouti. To facilitate this process, we have established a Joint Technical Committee dedicated to these efforts."
The two leaders also agreed to strengthen and expand bilateral relations in strategic sectors such as Health, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Education, Energy and Agriculture.
