Second Lady Dorcas Gachagua has kicked off her rehabilitation program for the first cohorts of addicts.

Under the first phase, at least 56 addicts were admitted to Holy Innocence BPSS center, Timau.

The 56 were identified during an exercise that has been going on in the Timau constituency.

They voluntarily requested to be rehabilitated after many years of drug and substance abuse as well as alcoholism.

She spoke during the flagging off of the rehabilitation program in Nyeri County.

The programme will be sponsored by Pastor Dorcas under her boychild program.

Pastor Dorcas committed to rehabilitating at least 2,000 addicts under the inpatient program and at least 4,000 addicts under the outpatient program by the end of the year.

"We are going to use every available facility to dignify our youth. We cannot lose a generation," she said.

"I firmly believe in your potential to overcome this obstacle. There is hope for you. There is a huge potential in you, it is only the satanic forces that have been pulling you back."

Pastor Dorcas said she is ready to change the lives of youths and make them better people in society.

"Today marks a turning point in your lives, the journey ahead is not easy but you have my support," She said.

After the rehabilitation program, the office of the second lady of the Deputy President has promised to place them in technical training institutes as well as connect them to jobs.

Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi pledged support for the program thanking Pastor Dorcas for the initiative.

"Pastor Dorcas you are restoring the hopes of these young men. Even if it is the only job you will do as the second lady of this country, so be it. We are behind you," he said.

Wamumbi called on the local administration to be more vigilant in their areas without protecting those selling and distributing drugs and illicit brews.

"Let us have no chief who is protecting a supplier, let us have no chief who is protecting a drug peddler," he said.
