Luanda MP Dick Maungu has vowed to vote against the Finance Bill 2023.

Speaking to Star via the phone on Wednesday, Maungu said he won't support the bill that is currently being proposed by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The lawmaker says the bill will frustrate Kenyans in these hard times.

He said President William Ruto’s government has betrayed the hustler nation that voted for him in the August general elections.

The lawmaker said the bottom-up financial model that Hustler Nation was ssupporting has now turned out to be a thorn in the flesh for many Kenyans.

"What the hustler Nation expected from President Ruto is now the opposite of what he promised," the lawmaker said.

"The head of state promised to lower the cost of living, create more jobs and support the small business communities to grow however he is currently killing the small business communities," Maungu added.

The lawmaker said the Kenya Kwanza government has chosen to increase taxes on basic needs and reduce taxes on luxury commodities choppers.

Maungu said he will join hands with other Mps to shut down the finance bill once tabled in the parliament.

The lawmaker said he won't allow that Bill to go through citing that it has more disadvantages to Kenyans.

"I won't support it because it's going to cause more harm to our economy more so to small-scale traders," Maungu.

Maungu's sentiments came a few days after Vihiga senator Godfrey Osotsi had criticized the finance bill.

Maungu’s sentiments came after Vihiga senator Godfrey Osotsi said the three percent housing levy proposed by Ruto’s administration is a scam.

Osotsi said President William Ruto should be bold enough and tell the public the government has no money to fund the projects they promised and therefore they are increasing taxes for that.

“We were told the Hustler Fund is there to support people but they don’t have money to give. That's why taxes are increasing. They said they will lower the cost of living but it's increasing day by day, so why is the head of state misleading Kenyans?” Osotsi said.
