The new board of directors at the embattled Kenya Medical Supplies Authority officially assumed office on Thursday.
The board chaired by Irungu Nyakera was sworn in at the Kemsa Embakasi Depot by Health CS Susan Wafula.
The new members inaugurated include Hezborn Oyieko Omollo, Bernard Kipkirui, Jane Masiga and Jane Mbatia.
Speaking during the inauguration, Wafula said the team was carefully selected noting that she is convinced that they will clean up the institution and ensure Kenyans access health commodities in time.
"I have given them the full mandate to clean the institution to where it is supposed to be as per the construction," Wafula said.
"I have highlighted to them that for the country to achieve UHC they should ensure that healthcare facilities are optimally equipped with essential medicines."
This comes barely days after the former board that was led by Daniel Rono was sacked by President William Ruto over alleged bungling of the mosquito nets tender.
Ruto on Monday sacked Health PS Josephine Mburu and the whole of the Kemsa board and appointed Nyakera as the new chairperson.
Wafula on her part reconstituted the Kemsa board and appointed new members.
Also fired during the crackdown was Kemsa CEO Terry Ramadhani and Andrew Mutava Mulwa replaced him in acting capacity.
Others suspended by the Health CS are Martin Wamwea, Lenson Kariuki, Pauline Duya, Livingstone Njuguna, and Charles Kariuki Chege who were serving under the Ministry of Health National Malaria Programme.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has since taken over the investigations with the chairperson David Oginde reaffirming that those found culpable will have their names forwarded to the DPP for further action once the process is complete.
The key areas of focus by the investigations team will be the loopholes that might have facilitated the bungled process, what exactly happened and the people involved.
“We are looking at who are the culpable people and they will be invited for interviews and for those found culpable we will forward their names with the relevant evidence to the DPP for further action,” Oginde said.
