Ruto to address Pan-African Parliament in South Africa

This will be the 3rd African Parliamentarians Summit on Climate Policy and Equity.

President William Ruto is expected to address the third African Parliamentarians Summit on Climate  Policy and Equity.

It will be hosted by the Pan- African Parliament in Midrand, Johannesburg South Africa on Wednesday.

 

This will be the 3rd African Parliamentarians Summit on Climate Policy and Equity.

The goal of the Summit is to galvanise a critical mass of stakeholders capable of catalysing broad support for pro-poor, just, equitable, locally-led, and science-based decisions in NDC implementation and overall climate action.

State House press secretary Emmanuel Talam confirmed to the Star that the President will leave the country late in the afternoon.

Last month, President of the Pan-African Parliament Chief Fortune Charumbira extended an invitation to President Ruto to grace the event.

The two-day summit will also interrogate the contentious issue of just transition and come up with recommendations to guide member countries in a direction that aligns with African realities. 

On top of taking stock of the COP27 and overall Africa’s progress in the NDCs implementation since the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015.

President  Ruto had called on the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) to be the continent’s standard-bearer on issues affecting African citizens.

These included issues related to intra-African trade, climate change, democracy, and good governance.
