Africans Rising for Unity, Justice, Peace and Dignity has invited Africans home and in Diaspora to the African Liberation Week from May 22 to 28.

The week is aimed at commemorating Pan-African cooperation and solidarity.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Africans Rising Communication consultant Ann Njagi urged people to join in on the celebrations by organising events and funding.

"We are calling upon the citizens and descendants of Africa to identify and organize events near them and invite individuals and organizations to join them, or provide financial support for specific organizations or movements to host their event during the African Liberation Week in any country(ies) / region (s)," she said.

She also requested Africans to join the movement. This can be done by reading the founding charter, The Kilimanjaro Declaration, and registering as a member.

The theme of the week is 'Borderless Africa', with sub-themes including the fight against inequality and the multiple crises facing Africa including food, energy, and climate crises.

Africans Rising Movement Coordinator Hardi Yakubu said to tackle the issues, Africans needed to embrace each other.

"The geopolitical whirlwinds we see today demand that we build strength and prosper together, which can only happen through unity and Pan-African solidarity," he said.

"We must ask ourselves whether or not we are prepared to emerge from these as drawers of water and hewers of wood as we have been for the past centuries."

During the week, Africans will also celebrate the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU), created on May 25, 1963.

This year marks 60 years since then and coincides with #BorderlessAfrica, a campaign under Africans Rising.

The campaign was launched during the 2022 All-African Movement Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.
