A man’s body was on Tuesday retrieved from a flooded construction site in Matungulu, Machakos County.

Matungulu subcounty police commander Peter Omondi said the body was retrieved from the stalled structure within Tala Township.

Omondi said the body was partly decomposed, an indication that it might have been in the waters for days before it was discovered.

“The body belonging to a male adult was spotted by a passerby who reported to police. Our officers from Tala police station rushed to the scene and processed it,” Omondi told the Star on Tuesday.

He said the matter was reported at the station as a drowning incident. 

The police boss said members of the public assisted the officers in retrieving the body.

He said the deceased remains unknown since no identification document was recovered from him after retrieval of his body.

“The deceased seems to have come from far, he is not known by the residents within the area. We have asked around Tala town and its environs but we haven’t found anyone who knows him,” Omondi said.

He said the body was removed to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy and identification.

Omondi police have launched investigations into the incident.

Elsewhere in Kangundo, Machakos County, DCI detectives are probing an incident where a pastor was murdered and his eyes gouged out before his body found dumped in a maize plantation approximately 50 metres from his homestead.

Charles Muthusi’s body was found lying in the farm near his homestead in Kawethei, Kangundo subcounty early Tuesday.

The deceased served as a pastor at Mukunike AIC church.

The body had visible head injuries with missing eyes when it was discovered.

The scene was visited by officers from Kawethei police post who processed it before removing the body to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

A detective privy to the probe told the Star that the deceased might have been dragged to the scene where it’s suspected he was murdered.

He said a screw driver was recovered from the scene indicating that it could be part of weapons used by the preacher’s killers to murder him.

No arrests had been made in connection to the incident by press time.
