Police have managed to recover 225 goats that were stolen in Tiaty East Sub-county.

The rescue took place on Friday.

The goats were stolen from a grazing field at Ngaratuko within Baringo North Sub-county.

A security team attached to the ongoing 'Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift' swiftly responded to a distress call of marauding bandits that stole 225 goats from the grazing field.

The security team subdued the bandits after a fierce fire exchange and managed to recover all the stolen animals.

"We acknowledge the vital role played by the local communities in the fight against banditry and cattle rusting, and commend them for their support that lead to the recovery of the stolen livestock," police said.

This comes as Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki moved to double security in Baringo areas as he tries to put an end to the cultural practice.

The officers were doubled on Saturday, April 15 and are set to remain there.

“We are upscaling the numbers of security agencies we have. We are doubling them on Saturday. And as I have announced, this deployment will not cease with the end of the operation," he said.

"Whenever the operation will be called off the security agencies will remain there for as long as Kenya exists."

He said that it will be easier to reach the security officers while they are in the region and that will help end banditry.
