Kajiado’s finance minister, Michael Semera, has said the county is striving to realise its revenue targets after the collections nose-dived during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Semera said his department is striving to realise its revenue targets by implementing its structural changes and introducing a sub-county reporting system.

“We are also establishing a compliance department, with a fully automated all revenue streams among other measures,” Semera said.

He said that after every policy is implemented, the county hopes to raise her revenues to above Sh1.5 billion, which it achieved before the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to the Star, Semera said all its staff have no salary arrears, and with a good revenue base, the county can provide the required services to the people of Kajiado.

“As of now, we have paid salaries to all our staff. No staff is waiting for his/her salary, and we have enough money to take care of the April pay for our workers,” he said.

Kajiado has several mining points for building stones, salt, and sand for building constructions in Nairobi and Kiambu.

The county boasts many flower farms in Kajiado East and materials for making cement around Sultan Hamud and in Kajiado Central.
