Creators to monetise content on Twitter in new changes

For the next 12 months, Twitter will keep none of the money.

Another day, another new change on one of the leading Social Media platforms, Twitter. 

Twitter users and particularly content creators will now earn from posting their content on the platform following the announcement made by the CEO Elon Musk, on Thursday. 

The monetisation tab has for the longest time had no particular functions, which raised concerns among Twitter users. 

Musk has in recent months, been responding to questions raised about several features on the platform, including the Monetization tab. 

"Apply to offer your followers subscriptions of any material, from long-form text to hours-long video! Just tap on “Monetization” in settings," Musk tweeted.

Musk added that the content creators will receive all the money earned from their posts for the first 12 months.

"After the first year, iOS and Android fees drop to 15 per cent and we will add a small amount on top of that, depending on volume," Musk added. 

"We will also help promote your work. Our goal is to maximize creator prosperity. At any point, you can leave our platform and take your work with you. Easy in, easy out."

Twitter, additionally said the platform is making improvements to the writing and reading experience. 

"Twitter will now support Tweets up to 10,000 characters in length, with bold and italic text formatting. Sign up for Twitter Blue to access these new features, and apply to enable Subscriptions on your account to earn income directly on Twitter. Tap on “Monetization” in settings to apply today," Twitter said.

The announcement comes months after Twitter enabled its users to post more than the normal 280 characters on the platform, only if one has subscribed to Twitter Blue.  

This will now enable several pages to post Journals, and opinions among others and earn money from it. 

At the beginning of the month, Twitter announced that it will start facing out its legacy blue badges, as users will now pay a monthly fee under Twitter Blue to have the badge (blue checkmark).

"On April 1, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks," Twitter verified said on Friday.

Going forward, Twitter users who want the verification mark will now have to reapply under Twitter Blue.

The last face out of the legacy badge will be on April 20.
