Raila Chief agent Saitabao Kanchory on August 14, 2022.

Lawyer Saitabao Ole Kanchory has revealed why Opposition Leader Raila Odinga lost in the August 2022 elections.

In his book titled Why Baba Is Not The 5th, Kanchory sought to explain events and issues that led to Raila's downfall.

Speaking at KTN News on Wednesday night, the former Raila's Chief Agent referred to his loss as a triple tragedy.

"I refer Raila's loss as a triple tragedy because in my view he was the best president Kenya never had, "Kanchory said.

To beat Raila, President William Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes representing 50.49 percent of the total vote, while his rival got 6,942,930, which was 48.85 per cent of the vote.

Kanchory also noted that the ODM party leader lost his presidential bid in the worst circumstances.

"I think Raila is a great man and what pains some of us is that we know he could have taken Kenya to a greater level," he said .

However, Kanchory revealed that what is pulling Raila behind is trying to do the same thing and expecting different results.

Digging deeper, the lawyer revealed that Raila's election command center was dysfunctional.

He noted that as much as funds were available, the centre lacked situational awareness, it was disunited and the national candidates did not take particular interest in activities.

Kanchory further revealed that both Raila and his presidential running mate Martha Karua were not personally interested in the progress of how things were run.

"You will be shocked to learn that not once did Raila or Karua personally join our deliberations either as National chief agents or to call and check on progress," he said.

He noted that shortly before and post elections, the first time the chief agent sat with Raila was at the Supreme Court.

Noting that some close allies also led to Raila's loss in the elections, Kanchory revealed that five agents of Azimio were locked out of the command center.

He states that the command center was hijacked by some of the key players in Azimio.

" The national chief agents team of five which included myself, Oduor Ong'wen, Caroline Karogo, Isaiah Kindiki and Paul Mwangi .. This team was kept out of the national command centre,"  Kanchory added.
