Police in Kisumu are investigating an incident in which a police officer lobbed teargas canisters at different joints within the Lakeside city on Monday night.

According to a police report, the incident was reported around 3 am on Monday.

The first incident happened at a hotel where he suspected his girlfriend had booked with another man.

After a quarrel with the watchman who denied him access to the hotel, it was reported that the said officer lobbed a teargas canister.

The police said the man later left the hotel on a motorcycle after his attempts to access it were futile.

"The officer later went to a club along the Kisumua--Nairobi highway in Nyamasaria where he also lobbed teargas canisters at the revellers," police said on Tuesday.

The mob around the area attacked and managed to arrest the man who was identified as a police officer.

He sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
