Over 40 cars are set to compete during Saturday’s Easter Holidays 4x4 Challenge at the Kapseret Forest in Uasin Gishu county.

Event director, Basil Maiyo, said the seventh edition of the Challenge will not only have cars but bikes as they seek to include as many enthusiasts as possible.

“We want to raise more money to conserve Kapseret Forest and that is why we want to be open to many events to attract as many participants as possible. This time we are hosting two events in one with a big number of bikers set to battle for the title. So far, we have 40 cars and a number of bikers registered,” said Maiyo.

Local leaders will use the event to champion for the forest's conservation.

The event is an off-road motorsport and motocross competition where participants are expected to brave selected tough-to-navigate hotspots.

Maiyo added this will be the second time they will be hosting two events in one since they began the showpiece seven years ago.

“Last year, we managed to host two events that were very successful. This time we want to do better than last year owing to the increased number of partners and competitors,” said Maiyo.

Maiyo added that they want to use the event to promote sports tourism, not just in the county but in the region —well known for producing top sportsmen and women.

He explained that the forest is the perfect place to offer a requisite level of complexity in terms of terrain as well as offer fans panoramic views of the skyline and other tourist attractions.

“The event is expected to bring together hundreds of individuals from across the country thus marketing Uasin Gishu as a tourist destination,” said Maiyo.
