Ruto to tour three counties in one day to launch projects

Ruto will launch the long-awaited Sh25 billion Mwache Multipurpose Dam project in Kwale County.

After a two-day tour of Rwanda, President William Ruto is back in the country with a day full of events.

Ruto who jetted back into the country on Wednesday evening landed at Moi International Airport in preparation for a one-day development tour of three counties; Kwale, Nyandarua and Nakuru.

In the morning, the head of state is expected to launch the long-awaited Sh25 billion Mwache Multipurpose Dam project in Kwale County.

The project has been delayed for five years due to land disputes and compensation concerns, causing anxiety among residents.

The contractor, Sino Hydro Corporation and Engineering of China, signed the deal in 2018.

State House spokesman Hussein Mohammed states that upon completion, the dam will benefit over 1.6 million people in Kwale and Mombasa counties.

It will provide an additional 186,000M3/day of domestic water and 45,000M3/day for irrigation to Mombasa and Kwale counties as well as provide water to irrigate 6,250 acres in Kwale County with a potential gross production value of Sh1.3 billion annually.

From Kwale, President Ruto will head to Nyandarua County and visit Ndunyu Njeru & Ol Kalou Potato plant.

He will be received by his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua and other state officials.

Later in the afternoon, the President will visit Njoro Constituency to commission a road project.
