Azimio leader Raila Odinga has demanded that the government takes up the responsibility of all victims of police brutality during Azimio demos.

Speaking on Tuesday, Raila said that police brutality is a practice that must end.

"We have resolved that the state must immediately take up the cost or waive all medical bills of the victims of police brutality including journalists, and the last expense costs of those who lost their lives," he said.

He said that when he visited Kenyatta Hospital and Mbagathi Hospital he saw police brutality firsthand.

The former Prime Minister said the victims were unarmed people but were shot by police and are suffering in hospitals.

"We have seen too much brutality since Inspector General of police  Japhet Koome took charge, it is worse than the days of dictatorships in this country," Raila said.

The opposition chief said that all victims of police brutality across the country must be taken care of.

Earlier, Raila visited Kenyatta and Mbagathi Hospitals where some of the victims injured during demos were receiving treatment.

This was after several people were injured during the two weeks protests, while others succumbed to police shooting, notably a Maseno University student.
