Police are investigating an incident in which a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death in a fight over a stick of cigarette in Kariobangi area, Nairobi.

Cornelius Mangayo was stabbed in the armpit on Monday morning in a fight with one Mohamud Mohamed after a disagreement.

The assailant picked a knife he had in his pocket and stabbed Mangayo in the left armpit, killing him on the spot.

Police said the two were at a shop in the area when an argument broke out over the cigarette that one of them was smoking.

“Some witnesses claim the deceased was smoking too close to the assailant which angered him while others say the assailant wanted a piece of the stick to smoke. We are investigating it,” said an officer who attended the scene.

The assailant escaped from the scene soon after the incident and has not been arrested.

According to police, the victim was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital by a Good Samaritan where he succumbed to injuries.

No arrest has been made so far and efforts to trace the said assailant are ongoing, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said.

Elsewhere in Ruiru, Kiambu, a 17-year-old boy died after he had been assaulted by people known to him.
