Opposition chief Raila Odinga has rubbished claims that his anti-President William Ruto regime protests are funded by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In an interview with media houses on Saturday, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance leader said the public barazas and looming mass protests are fully funded by the people.

He noted that members of the Azimio coalition voluntarily raise funds for the coalition's activities.

Raila appeared to exonerate Former President Uhuru from blame that he was footing the expenses of the movement's demonstrations.

"Hii maandamano haijagharamiwa na mtu yoyote, wananchi wenyewe ndio wanafund. Hakuna mtu anaweza kuwa na pesa kiasi cha kufund hii maandamano," Raila said.

Loosely translates to: "These protests have not been funded by one specific individual. It is funded by the Citizens themselves. No one has such a huge amount of money to be able to foot the expenses of the movement".

The clarification comes after DP Rigathi Gachagua and his allies claimed that Raila is being sponsored by Uhuru to hold the mass protest.

"These people who are sponsoring this mzee should stop living in denial...this mzee lost...there is nothing they can do,” said the DP.

National Assembly Majority leader Kimani IKchung'wah on his part faulted Uhuru saying Raila is being used to cause chaos.

“Uhuru Kenyatta because you are the principal sponsor of the demonstrations...Raila Odinga is a mercenary sponsored by Uhuru Kenyatta,” he said.

But Raila maintains that the movement's activities bill is being footed by members who contribute whatever they have.

He said there is no specific individual who is funding the coalition's activities.

"Sisi wenyewe tunachanga hapa na pale kugharamia hii maandamano (We contribute to the expenses of our activities). Anything someone has gives voiluntatrily. Sisi ni movement ya wananchi9We are people's movement)," he said.
