The government eyes the exportation of Kenyan building products to the US, Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Zachariah Njeru has said.
He said the construction industry in Kenya has great potential.
"The construction industry has the potential to overtake agriculture and textiles as one of Kenya's biggest exports to the US," Njeru said.
The CS spoke during the ONEXPO in Las Vegas on Friday.
Njeru was accompanied by Public Works Principal Secretary Joel Arumonyang Loremoi and officials of the National Construction Authority among others.
The expo featured the latest developments in technology-based solutions in the construction industry.
The CS was in the US to attend high-level events held alongside the 67th UN Commission on the Status of Women held in New York where he spoke on how the digitisation and automation of land records can boost the rights of women.
Kenya's participation in the expo comes as the government moves ahead with the Affordable Housing Programme through which it will build 200,000 affordable housing units annually.
This year, President William Ruto has launched five affordable housing projects; Homabay, Ruiru, Kibera, Starehe and Shauri Moyo.
The Kenya Kwanza government is encouraging local and foreign investors to partner with the State in constructing affordable housing units.
President Ruto said he will work closely with the Nairobi county government and all the other agencies so that at least 3,000 acres can be set aside to have between 400,000 and 500,000 housing units.
