President William Ruto plants a tree during the launch of the National Programme for accelerated forestry and rangelands restoration.

A large number of youths in Meru turned out at Kinoru stadium to engage in the one-day forest ranger recruitment exercise.

Through its Twitter page, the Kenya Forest Service announced that the gates to the recruitment centres would be open at 5:30 am and closed two and a half hours later.

The recruitment exercise is being conducted by teams from the Kenya Forest Service.

“Every team will collaborate with the respective county administration. Recruitment centre gates will be open from 5.30 am in the respective recruitment centres. All candidates are encouraged to arrive at the venue by 8.00 am when gates shall close,” the statement read.

They had announced that the event would be open to the media and other key bodies.

The forest service through the same statement warned individuals against any attempts to gain unfair advantages by engaging in corruption during the recruitment exercise.

“The recruitment is free and fair. Individuals wanting to be recruited are advised NOT to give money to anyone promising them placement. To be recruited, one only requires to be at the recruitment centre in their home county,” the statement read.

The exercise had a single recruitment centre for the forest rangers in each of the 47 counties with the recruitment of the rangers being in line with President William Ruto’s agenda of attaining a 30 per cent forest cover by 2032.
