Gachagua mourns long time friend Sammy Njuguna

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condoled with the family of his long-time friend Sammy Njuguna.

Gachagua said he remembered the late Njuguna as one of the people who played a pivotal role in their election into office.

The DP said his health started deteriorating soon after they won the August 2022 presidential election, but they have always been in touch.

Gachagua revealed that their friendship began after he was posted to Kiambaa Division as a young District officer in 1993.

He added that even after getting transferred from the area, they still kept in touch.

"It was with deep sadness that I joined the family and friends of the late Sammy Njuguna Murugu a.k.a. Amin, in Karuri, Kiambaa, Kiambu County, for prayers and to celebrate his life. He has been my friend since 1993 when I was posted to Kiambaa Division as a young D.O. We remained friends and kept in touch after I left Kiambaa in 1996," Gachagua said.

"He was later instrumental in campaigning for President Ruto and me, and indeed, our entire UDA team. Unfortunately, his health started failing him after our victory. Despite being weak and frail, he called me every evening for encouragement. My sympathies go to his wife, Nancy and their children. May the Lord give them strength to bear the huge loss."
