Lion recovers after vasectomy to control births in captivity

Breeding not allowed in captive facilities and management interventions such as vasectomy are undertaken

A three year old lion has a vasectomy procedure which was carried out by Kenya Wildlife Veterinary team Dr Bernard Rono (right), Mukami Ruoro (left) and Benjamin Oundo Veterinary Surgeon North Kenya Vets (centre), Cpl Beatrice Miteyi (second right) looking on. This was done to prevent mating of the lions in captivity. The lion is a was rescued from Massai Mara when it was 3months in the year 2020.

A three-year-old lion last week underwent vasectomy to control breeding in the captive facility.
