President William Ruto is currently hosting a meeting with members of the Jubilee Party.

The move is seen as part of the President's strategy to counter opposition chief Raila Odinga who is on Monday holding a mega rally in Nairobi.

On Sunday, Kenya Kwanza politicians urged President Ruto to reach out to the Jubilee faction of the Azimio coalition to parry away the opposition offensive.

The Star has established that the meeting started shortly after 8 am with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also in attendance.

Those present include EALA MP Kanini Kega, Nominated MP Sabina Chege, Irene Njoki (Bahati), Zachary Kwenya Thuku ( Kinangop), Shadrach Mwiti ( South Imenti), Mark Mwenje ( Embakasi West), Amos Mwago ( Starehe), Dan Karitho ( Igembe Central), Stanley Muthama ( Lamu West) and Joseph Githuku (Lamu Senator).

On Friday, Gachagua met the same leaders in his office where he said the Kenya Kwanza government will work with all regardless of political affiliation.

After the meeting, Kanini Kega said that politics should not be kept at heart.

"Siasa usiweke kwa roho (Don't keep politics in your heart) Riggy G the Deputy President hosted us today and we had a good day discussing development issues," he said.

Kega who is considered a close ally to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, was among the biggest critics of Kenya Kwanza during pre-August polls last year.

After failing to defend his seat in Kieni, Kega in November last year changed his tune and started rallying Mt Kenya leaders behind DP Gachagua.

Kega announced that he will foster the region’s unity behind the DP but within his political formation – Jubilee Party that is led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto who was Jubilee's deputy party leader was kicked out of the party in February 2022 during a National Delegates Convention.

The NDC was presided over by Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta who is also the party leader.

On March 2, 2o22 Gachagua who was then the Mathira MP quit the Jubilee party and joined UDA.

Gachagua- Jubilee members meeting comes barely 48 hours after the party said that  Opposition leader Raila Odinga's votes were stolen in Mt Kenya.
