Raila Odinga's planned Kamukunji rally is part of his preparations for the 2027 general election, city lawyer and political analyst Danstan Omari has said.

Speaking on Monday, Omari said the President who was then DP started campaigning for the job in 2017 and that is exactly what Raila has decided to do.

He added that President William Ruto must be able to cope with what the former prime minister is doing, because the oppositions work is not to allow the ruling regime to succeed.

"The opposition's job is not to allow you to deliver, the opposition's job is to make you fail. 2017 to 2022 William Ruto was busy campaigning and having demonstrations. Uhuru cried 'please let us work', he went campaigning. So it is tit for tat," Omari said on K24.

"Raila has gone to the streets in preparation for 2027. The President must cope with the position he was in, which Raila has taken."

Ruto has termed the planned rally as ways the opposition is looking for to blackmail his administration.

He said he will not allow the peace and tranquillity of the country to be disrupted by a few individuals who are chasing personal interests.

The President warned that such rallies would disrupt the peace of the country and vowed that he will not let the country be held hostage by some people.

“I will not allow a few to treat Kenyans to rallies so that we stop serving the citizens and work for them. The end has come; there is no more. What you got from threats should be enough because we cannot be working for a few people year in and year out,” he said.

“You can never hold this country, hostage, again. I will not allow it. Go ahead with your demonstrations but I will not listen to one person at the expense of millions of Kenyans.”

Raila, who has been in South Africa is expected to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday at 11am and thereafter proceed to Kamkunji for the People’s Baraza.

Omari, however, says the country is now on the right track.

"I think the country is now getting it right and questions about accountability, transparency and service delivery will be the cornerstone of this regime for five years," he said.
