Celebrations rocked Mburaria village, Kiambu town after Lenson Wandie Muchema scored an A- (minus) in the KCSE exam whose results were announced by Education Cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu Friday.
Wandie was in Alliance High School and is part of the 875 males who attained a mean score of grade A and part of the 1,146 candidates who had a mean grade of A.
Wandie said despite being in high school for three and a half years, his hard work, commitment and help from family and friends helped him perform well.
"It was not an easy task but I knew I could make it and I am happy with my results which I worked hard for."
Wandie said he hopes to join Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to pursue computer science which has been his dream career course.
"I have always wanted to do computer science which I promise to also work hard and reach its highest ranks, and also impart the knowledge to help grow the country's ICT sector," he said.
Wandie said the KCSE exam was fair despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 that disrupted their education. He encouraged other students who will be sitting for their national exams this year to work hard and concentrate on their studies to be successful.
"Put God first in your studies, do not despair as it is not that simple and most of all, commit yourself to studying and understanding what you are reading and not cramming. To succeed, believe in yourself," Wandie said.
Wandie's aunt Jane Ngendo said the concentration he had on studies during holidays, they knew he would perform well and has done them proud.
“Since Wandie did his KCPE exams and posted good marks and was admitted to Alliance, he has concentrated and committed himself to studying. We are proud that he has attained good results,”Ngendo said.
Esther Wangechi, a family member said they are happy with Wandie as his results have proved that he is capable of learning and achieving the best.
“We were expecting good marks and the Covid-19 was never an obstacle to him since he never lost his sight on his target. We know he will make us and the community proud as he goes to the next levels of education and career,” Wangechi said.
Wandie's father Simon Muchema who was at his work place in Nairobi during the announcement of the results could only post on his social media pages and wrote “Thanks God bless my son again with A thanks alliance high school”.
