Man wearing dera, hijab 'arrested' by residents in Tana River

A man was intercepted by the public for wearing a dera in Tana River.

A man was on Thursday at around 5:37 pm, handed over to the authorities by locals at Wema village in Garsen Division, Tana River.

This was after the public became suspicious of his attire, which included a woman's dera and a hijab.

The man, who had no Identification Card, claimed his name was Mohamed Shilling alias Mohamed Shaban.

A police report said the locals intercepted him for being of 'questionable character' and handed him over to the area assistant chief.

"He then contacted Wema GSU, who acted promptly and came to the site, upon searching the person, they found him with an electronic gadget looking like a phone/recorder," the report reads.

The man is still in the custody of the General Service Unit officers as investigations are ongoing.
