National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula on Friday held a conversation with the Speaker of the House of Commons in the United Kingdom, Sir. Lindsay Hoyle.

The meeting was on the sidelines of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) that comes to an end today in Canberra.

Wetang'ula said they discussed issues in the Parliaments of the two countries.

"Delighted to have had a hearty conversation with the Speaker of the House of Commons in the United Kingdom, Sir Lindsay Hoyle on the sidelines of the CSPOC that comes to an end today in Canberra, Australia," he tweeted.

"We shared a ray of issues touching on the Parliaments of the two countries; Kenya and UK including their mandate, leadership, procedures and work processes," he said.

Wetang'ula said he attended the conference "in the spirit of maintaining, fostering, and encouraging impartiality and fairness on the part of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments."

He said the meeting would also promote knowledge and understanding of parliamentary democracy in its various forms and develop parliamentary institutions.

The forum, usually conducted on a biennial basis, brings together the Speakers and Presiding Officers of the national parliaments of the independent sovereign states of the Commonwealth.

This year’s convention is expected to look into various aspects of developing Parliamentary Institutions; promote knowledge and understanding of parliamentary democracy in its various forms and deliberate on ways in which to maintain, foster, and encourage impartiality and fairness on the part of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments.
