Former Fisheries Lamu County Executive Atwaa Salim

Former Fisheries Lamu County Executive Atwaa Salim has won the Shella Ward by-election in Lamu.

He garnered 1,053 votes while Mohamed Hassan Ali of the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party got 573 votes.

Atwaa vied for the post under the Orange Democratic Party (ODM).

Saamiya Mohamed Abduljabar came third with 45 votes while Nizar Mohamed Shee emerged fourth with 10 votes.

"I congratulate Atwaa Salim Mohamed for emerging the winner of this by-election," Lamu West IEBC Returning Officer Isaiah Madzungu said.

ODM party took to Twitter to congratulate Atwaa, saying they are proud of him.

"Atwaa Salim Mohamed of ODM is the winner of Shella Ward, Lamu County By-election. Congratulations Hon. Atwaa. We are proud of you," the statement read.

The by-election is as a result of the resignation of Azhar Ali Mbarak who contested the Lamu County Assembly Speaker.
