A woman was arrested in connection to the death of her 15-year-old son in Suna West, Migori County.

Police believe the boy succumbed to injuries inflicted on him by his mother on the night of New Year's Day.

The woman was arrested Tuesday evening after neighbours discovered her son's lifeless body.

Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala said the suspect who is a Migori-based businesswoman, left her house on Tuesday morning believing that her son, a form two student at Abwao Secondary School, was sleeping off the beating he received the previous night.

She was visibly surprised to learn of his death according to Wanjala who added that police are yet to establish the boy's cause of death.

He said they however suspect that he succumbed to the injuries since his body had visible signs of abrasions.

The motive is yet to be known. The deceased's body had a few bruises on his knees.

“We also believe he might have received some internal injuries during the ordeal," Wanjala said.

Police have also begun a hunt for the boy's brother, 25, who is alleged to have also taken part in the fatal beating of his juvenile sibling.

"The woman has admitted to beating the deceased, but she says that her eldest son was also present," Wanjala said.

The deceased's body was moved to Migori Level IV Hospital for pending postmortem as investigations into the incident continue.
