Seven people among them five family members have been seriously injured after they were involved in a road accident at Kibunja town on the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway
The accident happened after the matatu they were travelling in from Nairobi to Eldoret rammed into a lorry.
"I was asleep and I was suddenly woken up by a sound. I was wearing a seat belt and I bet that helped a lot as those who were sitting behind us were injured," one of the victims said.
The five family members were headed to Kitale town for a family get-together to celebrate Christmas.
They are recuperating at the Molo Subcounty Hospital where they were rushed for treatment.
Molo traffic police officers led by Traffic Commander James Gatara visited the scene and and called on road users to be extra careful on the roads especially during the festivities.
The accident occurred barely 24 hours after another one happened on the Narok-Bomet highway.
Two people died after a salon car they were travelling in overturned and rolled severally at Ratili area.
Three others were seriously injured. Among the dead was a woman.
Police said the occupants were driving towards Bomet town when the accident occurred at around 11.20am on Saturday.
A police report from Ololulunga Police Station in Narok South subcounty said the accident involved a Mercedes Benz salon car.
Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen on December 20 urged Kenyans to exercise caution as they travel home for the festivities.
Speaking at Harambee House in Nairobi, Murkomen noted that the latest Road Safety report released by NTSA shows that 4,449 people died in road accidents between January to December 15.
