A new maternity facility was on Tuesday commissioned at the Ndhiwa Subcounty Hospital.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga presided over the commissioning of the new maternity wing whose construction was partly funded by the Safaricom Foundation and Mpesa Foundation.
"We continue to enhance our ability as a county government to deliver high-quality, low-cost reproductive, maternity, neonatal, child, and adolescent health services," Wanga said.
AMREF Health Africa also partly funded the maternity facility which was constructed at a cost of Sh150 million.
The project is part of a two-year program dubbed Uzazi Salama that aims at improving access to quality healthcare for women and children under the age of five years in Ndhiwa and Suba Subcounties in a bid to reduce the mortality rate in these regions.
