The government will introduce additional promotional courses for national government administrative officers, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has said.

Kindiki said courses to be introduced include diploma in public administration, senior management course and strategic leadership development programme.

He said his ministry desired to ensure officers attend requisite promotional courses.

Kindiki spoke during the national government administrative officers’ paramilitary pass-out parade on Friday at the National Police Service Training College, Embakasi ‘A’ Campus, Nairobi.

He said the courses are for the officer’s career progression as stipulated in the Revised Scheme of Service for National Government Administrative Officers (2015).

“It is worth noting that the course enhance your understanding of the relationship and linkages between the various security formations in the field and their interactions,” he said.

It was the third cohort of national government administrative officers to successfully undertake the para-military course.

448 officers graduated, bringing to 1,397 national government administrative officers trained.

Kindiki said several officers have retired or are soon leaving service.

“Under my leadership, the challenges of succession management will be progressively addressed,” he said.

“The ministry will engage the Public Service Commission to address the gaps in succession management and fill the existing vacancies.”

Kindiki thanked national government administrative officers for having demonstrated their effectiveness in coordinating national government programmes, projects and initiatives.

They include inter-communal conflicts management, disaster response coordination, war on illicit brews and drugs, inter-governmental relations, border security; security of critical infrastructure; and fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

He said the national government administrative officers are expected to interpret and disseminate government policies to the members of the public.

“The role of disseminating government policies renders the views and actions of national government administrative officers as reflective on the entire government and the Presidency,” he said.
