Leaders in the Azimio la Umoja coalition have come out to oppose the re-introduction of GMO in the country.
The team led by national Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi was reacting to remarks made by Trade and Industrialisation CS Moses Kuria.
The statement by Wandayi opposed the move saying no level of famine should allow GMO back to the country.
Wandayi said GMO is not a solution to fighting hunger which has ravaged several parts of the country.

Wandayi said GMO is not a solution to fighting hunger which has ravaged several parts of the country.
"There is no consensus on the safety of GMO foods to humans and their impact on the environment," Wandayi said.
The minority leader said the Azimio team will not be part of the efforts to return GMO.
Wandayi termed the remarks made by Kuria as cruel.
Kuria said there is nothing wrong adding GMO foods on the menu as Kenyans live in country where they compete with death daily.
"Being in this country you are a candidate for death and because there are many things competing for death in this country, there is nothing wrong with adding GMOs to that list," Kuria said.
From this remarks, Wandayi said Kuria is confirming what the Azimio team had said previously.
"That there is a falseness about this administration; a lack of empathy; a coldness and an arrogance that are at odds with the times Kenyans find themselves in. Kenyans deserve better," Wandayi said.
He added that the famine witnessed in the country is being used as an excuse to reintroduce GMO.
The Ugunja Constituency lawmaker further faulted the government for using the GMO issue to have ill doings.
"To defraud the country in a scheme very much similar to the Goldenberg scam of the 1990s," he said.
Wandayi, therefore questioned the rationale for imports of maize and also the duty free imports.
"Why has there been no effort to get ordinary maize from other parts of the world or was importation of GMOs part of the pre-election deal between President William Ruto and foreign backers?" Wandayi paused.
He also inquired into the future of local maize farmers.
"What becomes of local farmers who are just beginning to harvest? How are these farmers to be protected or compensated?" He asked
