Act now or we'll be eliminated - Ledama says on drought effects

Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has called for action to cushion citizens against the effects of the ongoing drought.

Ledama said leaders need to come up with a plan to help those who have been heavily affected, warning that failure to do so will lead to loss of lives.

In a statement on Friday, he also decried the decimation of domestic animals.

"We have homestead that have completely shut down! The drought has decimated our domestic animals! Our people are knocking on doors asking for food. Just food to survive !!!We must act now or else we are eliminated on this earth @joelenku @LinusKaikai @HonTuya," he said.

Speaking at CNN on Tuesday during COP27 in Egypt, Ruto said the State has to allocate funds meant for hospitals, drugs and education to feed the population.

"For the first time in the history of our nation, we have had to feed wildlife and it is something that we have never seen, the reality of climate change is here with us," he added.

The State Department of Livestock has confirmed that 2.5 million heads of livestock have already succumbed to the biting hunger.

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) also reported a massive wildlife death, listing 49 Grevy’s zebras, 381 common zebras, 512 wildebeests,205 elephants,51 buffalos and 12 giraffes in the past nine months.
