"Of the dire challenges facing Fafi constituency (drought, hunger, lack of clean water, poverty, poor hospitals, lawlessness/bandit attacks, teachers' withdrawal by TSC) this tyro MP sees as a priority a constitutional amendment to remove the Presidential term limits. Who cursed Fafi?" he asked.

Speaking during a relief food distribution exercise in Garissa over the weekend, Yakub revealed that he had been having meetings with other MPs to table the bill.

He proposed that the Constitution replaces the two-term Presidential limit with an age limit of 75 years.

"We will come up with an amendment Bill to try to change this because we want the requirement to be on age limit and not terms," he said.

"If a president is doing a good job, then he or she should not be limited by the terms."

The statement was however denied by the UDA chairperson Johnson Muthama, saying the party supported the current term limit and stood open for democracy.

"Please take note of this, as the National Party, Chairman I wish to categorically state that Hon. Yakub's made a personal statement which has nothing to do with UDA Kenya," he added.

After his win in August, MP Yakub said improving security and pushing for the recruitment of more teachers will be his top priorities.

Fafi has been marred by attacks orchestrated by the al-Shabaab militants leading to stagnation in development and general fear in the area.

Education has been affected since the 2019 attack on five non-local teachers at Kamuthe Primary School with non-local teachers fleeing the area.

"We will push for a quota system so that students can enrol with lower grades and be posted to our schools, a system that is both acceptable to TSC and is of benefit to our schools, and also increase enrolment by providing uniform and other items to learners," he said then.
