Chief CS Musalia Mudavadi led the distribution of 1,200 sacks of rice and 480 bags of beans, each weighing 50kgs in Mwala, Machakos on Saturday.
Mudavadi said they will strive to also donate food to schools as more than four million Kenyans are affected by drought and hunger.
He said the government through President William Ruto has strategies to respond to the effects of drought and hunger that has ravaged most parts of the country.
"The government has a plan through the leadership of Ruto. He went to Turkana today and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua went to Kajiado as I came to Machakos for the same cause, " Mudavadi said.
The CS said more than 500, 000 residents of Machakos county have been affected by drought hence in danger of starvation.
He said the drought has caused problems to livestock, wildlife and human beings across the country.
Mudavadi said the effects of droughts across the country were grievous.
He however said the government is working together with other partners like World Vision and Kenya Red Cross to address the effects of drought.
"We haven't gotten the end of this disaster. Experts who have been forecasting weather tell us that the drought might go beyond February.
"It is our responsibility as the government and Kenyans to come up with measures to address climate change and its effects such as construction of dams and planting drought resistance crops," Mudavadi said.
The CS said the government alone can't manage to address the effects of climate change in isolation hence need for working together with stakeholders.
"We must work together, both the national and county governments and development partners. We will give little food here, but the journey is long," he said.
Mudavadi further told Kenyans to forget about 2022 politics since election is behind us.
"After election, there are problems. Let's forget issues of election. It won't help even if we start blame games," he said.
The CS said citizens had bestowed powers to Ruto alongside those elected in various political positions across the country.
