The Nairobi County Government will soon start collecting revenue using a new electronic system dubbed Nairobi Pay.

Governor Johnson Sakaja said on Friday that the new system will be launched in a few weeks time.

"Growth is inevitable and we are now moving from the KRA Nairobi Revenue System because they have helped us build our capacity to our new platform Nairobi Pay that we shall launch soon," he said.

The system was worked on since January last year by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Nairobi county government.

It was developed at a cost of Sh160 million.

Sakaja said that he is hopeful that by next year, Nairobi will be ranked among the most improved counties in terms of revenue collection.

In November last year, the three entities launched the Nairobi Revenue System (NRS) to invigorate revenue collection.

It was said to be a system that can withstand the test of time and is tamper-proof, thus giving residents reliable access to services.

KRA was appointed the principal county revenue collector on March 16, 2020 as part of the agreement in the deed of transfer of functions of the county to the national government.

Several officers were also seconded by the national government to KRA to collect county revenue.

Residents started paying for county services using the new digital platform in December 2021.

It replaced the Local Authority Integrated Financial Management System (Laifoms) which has been in existence since 2014.

Payment for parking services, rent, business licences, fire services,  market fees, land rates, public health certification, development control, social services and all new applications were to be processed through NRS.

One can access the NRS through nairobirevenueservices.go.ke or via the USSD code by dialing *647#.
