Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Friday arrested a KRA Customs official at JKIA over alleged bribery.
In a statement on Saturday, the Commission said the suspect was arrested for allegedly demanding for Sh35,000 to abet tax evasion.
"After arrest, she was escorted to EACC Integrity Centre Police Station where she was processed," the Commission said.
She spent the night at Kilimani Police Station before being returned to Integrity Centre on Saturday where she was released on cash bail, the EACC said.
The accusations against her are that she demanded for a bribe from a consignee who had gone to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to collect his laptop.
The Commission said the gadget, a HP model, had been sent to the consignee by his relative in Texas, USA via DHL.
"The consignee had received a message from DHL through his mobile phone that his consignment had arrived and he was required to pay a tax of Sh100,974 for the laptop HP SPECTRE X360. When he arrived at DHL, he was directed to see the KRA Customs Official who demanded the bribe," EACC said.
The Commission said the customs officer solicited for a Sh35,000 bribe in a deal that would see the consignee pay only Sh12,000 tax by undervaluing the laptop.
"Upon investigations, EACC arrested the officer yesterday evening (Friday) while receiving the bribe," the Commission said.
"She was today released on cash bail pending further action, in accordance with the law," it added.
