Kenya Women Parliamentary Association has asked government to impose a total ban on the travel of domestic workers to the Middle East.

Led by Kewopa chairperson Muthoni Wamuchomba (Guthunguri) the women leaders said there should be immediate freeze on exportation of Kenyan workers until better terms are negotiated by the government.

"We are demanding for a total ban of Kenyan workers to the Middle East," Wamuchomba said.

Their concerns followed the latest incident where a Kenyan domestic worker is seen in a video shared online breastfeeding her employers dog.

The woman left for Saudi Arabia two months after giving birth.

The MPs called on the government to give a list of all Kenyan domestic workers to the Middle East and their current condition.

They also demand list of all recruiting agents and the number of girls they have taken to the Middle East Countries.

The MPs include Prof. Phyllis Bartoo (Moiben), Veronica Maina (nominated), Liza Chelule (Nakuru MP) and Dorothy Muthoni (nominated).

Bartok said the treatment of Kenyan girls in Saudi Arabia is modern day slavery which must be condemned.

"This is slavery reloaded," Prof. Barton said.

Maina said the ill-treatment meted on Kenya workers is unfortunate and a serious breach of labour laws guiding the worker/employer relationship.

"I am urging our young girls not to take any flight before the government negotiates with the Government of Saudi Arabia," Maina said.

The lawmakers were speaking at Parliament building on Tuesday.
