Kevin Otieno was having a long phone call with a yet-to-be-identified person before he was shot 36 times to his death in Mihango area, Utawala, Nairobi.

The incident happened on Friday, September 23, around 1pm along Gesora Road.

Otieno was in the company of a woman who was meters away from him as he was making the call.

Sources privy to scanty details of his phone conversation told Nation that the deceased was heard saying “wewe kuja tu kwangu niko area (come to my house, I’m around)” numerous times.

It is when Otieno had sat on a building stone in the area as he continued with the phone conversation that an unknown number of gunmen aboard two vehicles cornered him.

Witnesses say they arrived in two vehicles; a white Land Cruiser and a grey double cabin Toyota Hilux.

The Star has learnt that the two vehicles were used to kidnap his brother the same day around 3am in Mwiki, Kasarani area.

In a frantic attempt to save himself from the impending danger, Otieno is said to have attempted to escape from the scene.

He was however cornered as the gunmen gave him a chase, and shot him unknown times.

“The gunmen quickly followed Otieno to where he was lying and continued shooting at him. Everyone was shocked as the gunshots rendered the air,” a witness told Nation.

The woman, who was in Otieno's company, started screaming. The gunmen ordered her to shut up.

The gunmen reportedly grabbed the woman and bundled her into their Land Cruiser.

Another man was seen stepping on Otieno in an apparent bid to ensure they had completely breathed life out of him.

Before they left the scene, the gunmen ordered two witnesses to surrender their phones which they sprayed with bullets before exiting the scene of the crime.
