Breast cancer ranks second in cancer deaths in Kenya - MOH

The report is part of the ministry's efforts to create cancer awareness.

The Ministry of Health said breast cancer ranks second in all deaths caused by cancer.

In a statement on Monday, the ministry said breast cancer records over three thousand deaths.

It also noted that about seven women succumb to breast cancer daily in the country.

"Breast cancer accounts for over 3,107 deaths making it the 2nd leading cause of all cancer deaths in the country. 7 women die every day in Kenya as a result of breast cancer," the Ministry of Health said.

It also stated that breast cancer is the leading type of cancer with an estimated 6,799 annually.

"It contributes to 12.5% of the overall cancer burden."

The report by the World Health Organisation highlighted nine other types of cancer, with prostate and cervical among the leading in causing death.

The report is part of the ministry's efforts to create cancer awareness.

October 1 to October 31 is a Breast Cancer Awareness month.
