A step father who turned wild and beat up a two-year child for defecating in his house was on Friday charged at a Kibera court.

The court heard that TS used a belt and slippers to beat the child on September 12 in Kangemi within Nairobi county.

He denied the charges before Kibera chief magistrate Ann Mwangi and pleaded for lenient bond terms.

The court was told that the little girl innocently relieved herself on the floor in front of the accused who in response beat her up.

Efforts by the minor's mother to save her child from the beating did not bear fruits as the man threatened her.

The man was later arrested and was on Friday arraigned and charged with the offence of subjecting a child to cruel punishment contrary to the Children's Act.

The magistrate directed that the accused person be released on Sh100,000 bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000 with the surety of the same amount.

The case will be mentioned early next month for a pretrial.
